I am Gaku Homma, the Founder and Kancho (館長; Executive Director) of Nippon Kan.
Although this site hasn’t been updated in quite a while, Nippon Kan has been active not only in the practice of Aikido but in humanitarian support activities.
These days, various martial arts organizations and individuals have been appealing to you and to the public through the Internet. In particular, there have been videos seen on the Internet about Aikido that raise some questions, and as someone with 60 years of experience in Aikido, I have decided to take a step back to think about Japanese martial arts once again, and while in this process of contemplation, I also have decided not only to stop advertising through the homepage but to focus more on sharing my daily activities as a Budo-ka (i.e., a martial artist), with an attempt to stay connected with the public, through my Facebook page only.
I have direct and firsthand experience as the last uchideshi/valet of the Founder of Aikido, the late Morihei Ueshiba, at Iwama where he had spent his later years, and I have taught over 20,000 beginners at Nippon Kan’s Headquarters Dojo in Denver alone to date.
For I am now 74 years of age, I no longer engage in flashy activities to attract and recruit new students, but I still continue to strive to explore the profound depths of Aikido, together with an excellent team of Nippon Kan staff of instructing.
Aikido Nippon Kan is the Dojo that I founded as someone who has a direct lineage to the Founder of Aikido under whom I, as his uchideshi, had practiced and studied the art of Aikido.
My Dojo welcomes anyone who wants to learn the essence of what the Founder of Aikido had practiced and wished to leave behind, especially when certain exaggerated and seemingly far-fetched interpretations of Aikido are not a rarity these days.
