December 23rd, 2012
AHAN construction began on this project in the spring of 2012 in the village of Huaye Park, Thailand near the Myanmar border. On December 23rd, 2012 Homma Kancho returned for the grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony of the Huaye Park Community Church; a community church and learning center built by and for the Myanmar Karen tribe refugees who have settled in this bordering area of Thailand.
Over 1000 people came from neighboring villages for the Huaye Park Community Church opening and the roadsides leading to the new church were lined with venders hawking their wares. There was a great feeling of celebration in the air as a small piece of history unfolded on a great day for the Karen people.
The construction of the Huaye Park Church and Learning Center was made possible by donations and support provided by Homma Kancho. Homma Kancho also made it possible for me to return to my village after five years away as a Karen refugee in Denver.
Thank you very much Homma Kancho!
