March 14th -17th, 2013
Homma Kancho was invited by the Royal Morocco Aikido Institute to teach in Casablanca, March 14th-17th, 2013. The invitation came on behalf of Alaoui M’Barek Sensei who has been an Aikido pioneer and icon instructor in Morocco for 55 years.
One of the main reasons Homma Kancho traveled to Morocco was to meet with Alaoui Sensei who over the years has become a valued friend of Homma Kancho.
The politics of Aikido in Morocco are complicated and currently Alaoui Sensei’s organization is independent of affiliation other than certification by the Morocco Royal government.
It is Homma Kancho and AHAN Nippon Kan policy never to become involved in the organizational management of any other organization nor solicit affiliation in any way. Under these guidelines, it is friendships that have been built all over the world with Aikido Nippon Kan, not an empire. Last year Homma Kancho even helped to organize a seminar in Morocco for Hiroaki Kobayashi Sensei, Aikido Kobayashi Dojocho.
Homma Kancho never receives fees for teaching and this was true for this well attended seminar. All of his travel expenses were also taken care of by AHAN Nippon Kan. After the conclusion of the seminar, Homma Kancho and Alaoui Sensei visited the Maison D’enfants Lalla Hasnaa, a national orphanage in Casablanca and donated proceeds raised by the seminar event. This orphanage is supported by Moroccan Princess Lalla Salma and cares for children 0 to 6 years old.
Homma Kancho was accompanied on this trip by Cihan Karaogluol from Izmir, Turkey. Cihan is a Nippon Kan Headquarters graduate uchideshi and certified Nippon Kan Instructor.
It was a short but a wonderful visit to Casablanca.
