June 24th to 26th, 2013
After the visit to Sittwe , we returned to Yangon, the bustling capital of Myanmar. There, accompanied by Nilar Than, AHAN Myanmar Coordinator and family, we delivered rice and supplies to the Yadanapon Temple and joined the children for a mid day meal. AHAN Nippon Kan has been supplying 1 ton of rice, educational and medical supplies since 2009.
Last year, in partnership with the Yadanapon Temple in Yangon, AHAN Nippon Kan built the new AHAN Jangon Learning Center a few hours outside of Yangon in the countryside. This facility is now fully operational.
In the afternoon, I visited the AHAN Myanmar Learning Center and held an English class and question and answer session with students currently studying for their entrance examinations into the university.
The AHAN Myanmar Learning Center was the first AHAN Learning Center in Myanmar donated by Homma Kancho. The purpose of this Learning Center is to house, teach and prepare students from the countryside from all backgrounds and all tribes for entrance into Yangon universities. All of the students at the AHAN Myanmar Learning Center would never have had the means to be able to study at the university level on their own. To date, dozens of these students have successfully entered local universities in the Yangon area.
I also had the opportunity to visit Myanmar Aikikai, U Mya Sein Sensei and his dojo in Yangon. It was a nice visit and reunion. Thank you Sein Sensei for your gracious hospitality!
